Ever since I took Floral Design in high school, I have become obsessed with creating flower arrangements. I love the look of a nice floral designed centerpiece in the middle of my kitchen table. I always have opted for Artificial Flower because the hassle that comes with real flowers has always took too much time and money. You always have to remember to water the flowers and if you let me "accidentally" die then you are out some major dollars, because we all know real flowers aren't cheap. Here are some designs I have created and are currently using in my own home.
Every season I change my centerpiece for my kitchen table. Right now I have a summer piece, so I will explain that one for you. I love unique vases, so I started with a tall (about foot and a half high) cylinder type vase, clear glass. At first I was going to add some seashells that I picked up at the beach, to fill the vase, but realized that the since the vase was pretty big, that I didn't have enough seashells. I did find some rocks that they have for sell at Walmart in the floral section. Medium size shinny gray rocks. It took me only about a bag to fill the vase which cost me around $3.00 for the rocks. Hint, when filling a glass cylinder place each rock one by one. DO NOT dump the whole bag of rocks at once because you will break the glass. I did find that out the hard way! I first filled the vase only half way through. I wanted to be able to add some flowers and work them into the rocks in the middle without having to have a full vase, but I needed the rocks in the vase so allow the flowers to stand still and not fall to the side.
Since I had a very tall vase, I needed to find a very tall flower. Luckily Walmart carries long stemmed flowers, and I picked up three long stemmed lilies (green, plummish color, and yellow). They fit perfectly in the vase without me having to cut off any stem access. I first bunched the lilies together so the stems were standing next to one another and then turned the flower part away from another. To look at the flowers they will be going in a circle.
